Description

Pileus: convex with an umbo; 30 mm diameter; fibrillose to smooth; dry (in dry conditions), steel blue with a buff brown centre slight splitting of margin.

Stipe: cylindrical; 55 × 4.5mm, narrower at apex, with bulbous base, hollow, off-white with bluish tint.

Gills: adnate and slightly sinuate; moderately crowded, pale lilac but browning with spores, , ventricose.

Flesh: not examined

Spore print: rusty brown.

Spores: spores subglobose to broadly ellipsoid; 7.6-8.32 × 6.24 - 7.13 µm, Q = 1.18; finely warty and thick-walled.

Notes: this Cortinarius is characterized by its steel blue cap with a buff brown centre, blue lilac gills and subglobose spores. The New Caledonia collections appear distinct from others in Australasia.
