Parsonsia flexuosa is an endemic liana of New Caledonia, distributed in the south of Grande Terre, from the far south of the Grande Terre to Mont Mi at the upper limit of the distribution as well as in Ile des Pins and Ouen island. This species occcurs in scrubland (maquis) on ultramafic substrate at an altitudinal range 10-1,100 m asl. This species occurs in several protected areas and is very common. With an extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) estimated to be 6,751 and 336 km², respectively, Parsonsia flexuosa does not seem globally threatened. It is therefore considered Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
Parsonsia flexuosa is endemic to New Caledonia where it is distributed in the south of Grande Terre, from the far south of the Grande Terre to Mont Mi in the upper limit of the distribution as well as in Ile des Pins and Ouen island.
Population
The population size is not known. However field observations indicate a species very common.
Habitat
Parsonsia flexuosa grows in scrubland (maquis) on ultramafic substrate at an altitudinal range 10-1,100 m asl.
Threats
Parsonsia flexuosa does not seem globally threatened although some subpopulations may be impacted by mining activities at Vulcain and Goro and uncontrolled bushfires.
Conservation
Parsonsia flexuosa is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia and it does occur in several protected areas : Mont Do, Vallée de la Thy, Côte Oubliée, Haute Dumbéa, Haute Yaté, la Dumbéa, Montagne des sources, Mont Mou, Rivière bleue, Barrage de Yaté, Chutes de la Madeleine.
