Angiopteris evecta is an indigenous tree fern, spread from Mont Panié in the north to Koghis/Vallée de la Thy in the south of Grande Terre in New Caledonia. It occurs in dense humid forest on volcano-sedimentary and ultramafic substrate, at an altitudinal range of 130-530 m asl. Currently highly threatened by rusa deer (Rusa timorensis russa) and feral pigs (Sus scrofa) in some locations, experts estimate a 30% population reduction in a time period that inclued past and future of 100 years. Angiopteris evecta is therefore assessed as Vulnerable (VU) with criteria A4(c +e).
