Secamone elliptica is an autochtonous species from New Caledonia widely distributed across the Grande Terre as well as at Belep islands, Ile des Pins and Loyalty Islands (Maré, Lifou et Ouvéa). This ubiquitous species occurs in various substrates (calcareous, volcano-sedimentary and ultramafic). Its altitudinal range is from 5 to 650 m asl. Despite having an area of occupancy and an extent of occurrence equal to 196 and 52,770 km², Secamone elliptica does not appear to be threatened at the moment, and is not thought to approach the requirements for listing as threatened. It is listed as Least Concern (LC).

Secamone elliptica is very common in New Caledonia.
Habitat
Secamone elliptica is an ubiquist species growing in various substrates (calcareous, volcano-sedimentary and ultramafic). Its altitudinal range is from 0 to 200 m asl.
Threats
Secamone elliptica does not appear to be significantly threatened at the moment. Though some subpopulations may be impacted by bushfires.
Conservation
This autochtonous species is protected by legislation in New Caledonia and it does occur in only 2 protected areas : Parc zoologique et forestier Michel Corbasson, Ouen Toro.
