Aleurites moluccana is an native tree of New Caledonia largely distributed in Grande Terre in southwestern coast, center and north east as well as in Ile des Pins. It is found in forest border and degraded forest on volcano-sedimenrtary substrate, up to 500 m asl. With an extent of occurrence (EOO) equal to 11,437 km² and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 92 km², A. moluccana is assessed as Least Concern (LC).

Geographical area


A. moluccana is a native species largely distributed in Grande Terre in southwestern coast, center and north east of Grande Terre as well as in Ile des Pins.

Population


Population size is unknown but field observations show it is a common species.

Habitat


A. moluccana occurs in forest border and degraded forest on volcano-sedimentary substrate, up to 500 m asl.

Threats


A. moluccana does not appear to be threatened at short term thanks to its development on stressed environment. In the long term, excessive development of invasive species (feral pigs (Sus scrofa) and Rusa deer (Rusa timorensis)), mining activities (Plateau (SLN)) and fires could be prejudicial for this species.

Conservation


A. moluccana is not protected by any legislation in New Caledonia and it does not occur in any protected area.
