Pancheria ferruginea is an endemic shrub of the southern part of Grande Terre in New Caledonia. It is found in shrubland and forest edges at low, mid and high altitude on ultramafic substrate. The main impact identified comes from mining activities and bushfires. However this species is abundant. Therefore, this species does not seem directly threatened. Its area of occupancy (AOO) and extent of occurrence (EOO) being respectively estimated to 164 and 1,715 km², Pancheria ferruginea is considered Near Threatened (NT) close to VU B1ab(iii)+2ab(iii) with a decline of habitat quality and a number of locations close to 10.
Geographical area
Pancheria ferruginea is restricted to the southern part of Grande Terre in the areas of Dumbéa, Païta, Boulouparis and Thio. It is however not present in the extreme south.
Population
This species can be locally abundant.
Habitat
It is found in shrubland and forest edges at low, mid and high altitude (20-1,000 m asl) on ultramafic substrate.
Threats
The main impact identified comes from mining activities and bushfires. However this species is abundant. Therefore, this species does not seem directly threatened.
Conservation
Unprotected by legislation, this species is found in several protected areas : Forêt de Saille, Haute Dumbéa, Mont Do, Mont Mou, Mont Humboldt, Montagne des sources
