Dendrobium crassifolium is an endemic orchid of New Caledonia, mostly distributed on the northeastern coast of Grande Terre (main island) but also found in Col d'Amieu, in Parc Provincial de la Rivière Bleue and Thy. D. crassifolium occurs in humid forest or gallery forest at an altitudinal range 10-900 m asl. Due to its habitat, D. crassifolium could be elsewhere in Grande Terre. With an area of occupancy and an extent of occurrence equal to 116 and 7826 km² respectively, D. crassifolium qualifies as Least Concern.

Population size is unknown, but D. crassifolium is not considered as a common species.

Conservation


D. crassifolium is protected by legislation in Province Nord and Province Sud. D. crassifolium occurs in three protected areas : Parc Provincial de la Rivière Bleue, Réserve de nature sauvage du massif de l’Aoupinié, réserve naturelle de la Vallée de la Thy.
