An endemic orchid of New Caledonia, Gunnarella neocaledonica is found across Grande Terre (main island) from Mt. Mandjélia to Forêt de la Superbe. G. neocaledonica is found in dense humid forest at an altitudinal range of 50-900 m asl. Despite having an area of occupancy and an extent of occurrence equal to 104 and 7,047 km² respectively, G. neocaledonica is not thought to approach the requirements for listing as threatened, and is listed as Least Concern.

G. neocaledonica does not seem threatened.

Conservation


Gunnarella neocaledonica is protected by legislation in Province Nord and occurs in four protected areas: Réserve de Nature Sauvage du Massif de l’Aoupinié, Parc des Grandes Fougères, Parc Provincial de la Rivière Bleue, and Réserve Naturelle de la Haute Dumbéa.
