Diospyros pancheri is an endemic tree/shrub of New Caledonia found in the south of Grande Terre. It is found in humid forest and shrubland at low-mid altitude on ultramafic substrate. The main threats impacting this species come from habitat fragmentation and degradation linked to uncontrolled bushfires and mining activities. Its area of occupancy (AOO) and extent of occurrence (EOO) being estimated respectively to 84 and 1,389 km², Diospyros pancheri is considered Vulnerable (VU) under criteria B1ab(ii,iii,v)+2ab(ii,iii,v) with an estimation of eight locations and an estimated continuous decline of AOO, habitat quality and number of mature individuals.

Diospyros pancheri is an endemic tree/shrub of New Caledonia spread in the south of Grande Terre: from Tontouta to Port-Boisé
Population
Population size is unknown. This species is not common.
Habitat
It is found in humid forest and shrubland at low-mid altitude (50-600 m asl) on ultramafic substrate.
Threats
The main threats impacting this species come from habitat fragmentation and degradation linked to uncontrolled bushfires and mining activities. Mining activities impact three subpopulations (Vale NC around Goro, MKM Ada in baie N'Go and SLN-SMT in Tomo and Tontouta)
Conservation
This species is protected by legislation in Province Nord but not in Province Sud. It occurs in one legally protected area (Rivière Bleue) . As this species is threatened by bushfires, its stations must be included in the maps of Sécurité Civile.
