Depanthus pubescens is an endemic species of New Caledonia, found in the central part of Grande Terre. There have been potential observations at Farino and Hienghène, but specimens are required to confirm its presence there. This species is currently only definitely known from two herbarium specimens collected in 1956 and 1980 at col d'Amieu, found in humid forest on volcano-sedimentary substrate at an average altitude of 700 m asl. However, due to a lack of recent observations to clearly understand its full range, Depanthus pubescensis is considered as a Data Deficient (DD) species.
