Syzygium guillauminii is an endemic shrub or tree from New Caledonia, where it restricted to the central and north east of Grande Terre, from Poami to Ignambi. This species is also seen at Aoupinié but herbarium specimens are required to confirm these locations. This species is not rare and it is found in dense humid forest mostly found near streams on volcano sedimentary soil from 50 to 750 m asl. The main threats are posed by invasive species (Rusa deer, Rusa timorensis and feral pigs, Sus scrofa) and potentially bushfires at la Ouaième. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are 342 and 32 km², respectively, with a number of locations estimated to be six. Therefore, S. guillauminii is listed as VU B1ab(iii,v)+2ab(iii,v) with a decline of habitat quality and number of mature individuals.

Geographical area

S. guillauminii is endemic to New Caledonia where it is restricted to the central and north east of Grande Terre, from Poami to Ignmabi.

Population

Population size is unknown, but field observations indicate the species is not rare.

Habitat

S. guillauminii occurs in dense humid forest mostly found near streams on volcano sedimentary soil from 50 to 750 m asl.

Threats

The main threats are posed by invasive species (Rusa deer, Rusa timorensis and feral pigs, Sus scrofa) and potentially bushfires at la Ouaième.

Conservation

This species is not protected by legislation in New Caledonie but it occurs in only one protected area: Mont Panié. This species should be included in the regional legislation for a better protection of the species. It is also recommended to collect more herbarium specimens, in particular at Aoupinié to better estimate its distribution range. Plus the local authority responsible for the coordination of the firefighting effort should be informed about the presence of the species in the concerned areas.
