Psychotria fuscopilosa is an endemic shrub of Grande Terre in New Caledonia, from Me Maoya to Rivière Bleue (refuge de la mine Soleil). It occurs in dense humid forest on ultramafic substrate at an altitudinal range 875-1,400 m asl. The main impact identified comes from mining activites, bushfires and increasing urbanisation. Its area of occupancy (AOO) and extent of occurrence (EOO) being respectively estimated to 52 and 2,594 km², Psychotria fuscopilosa is considered as Vulnerable (VU) with criteria B1ab(i,ii,iii,iv,v)+2ab(i,ii,iii,iv,v) with a continuing decline of all concerned sub-criteria.

Psychotria fuscopilosa is an endemic shrub of Grande Terre in New Caledonia, from Me Maoya to Rivière Bleue (refuge de la mine Soleil).
Population
It is known from 7 subpopulations : Mé Maoya, Kouaoua, Forêt de sailles, Dent de Saint Vincent, Humboldt, Massif du Kouakoué and Rivière Bleue.

Psychotria fuscopilosa occurs in dense humid forest on ultramafic substrate at an altitudinal range 875-1,400 m asl.
Threats
Some subpopulations may be threatened by mining activities: Kouaoua (SLN).
Conservation
Unprotected species by legislation, Psychotria fuscopilosa occurs in five protected areas : Rivière bleue, Forêt de Saille, Mont Humboldt, Massif du Kouakoué, Haute Yaté. It is moreover advised to include this species in future restoration programs.
