Psychotria macroglossa is an endemic shrub, widespread in Grande Terre from Ponandou in the north to Ouenghi in the south of New Caledonia. It occurs in dense humid forest at an altitudinal range 0-850 m asl. This species does not seem directly threatened. Psychotria macroglossa is considered Least Concern (LC).
