Neoschmidia pallida is an endemic shrub (0,4-4 m high) mainly distributed in the Grand Massif Sud (from Yaté to Houailou) with an extension to the north ouest of Grande Terre (Pouembout and Massif de Tchingou). This species occurs in dense humid forest, galery forest and shrubland on ultramafic substrate up to 1,050 m asl. This species is not globally threatened. Therefore with an extent of occurrence (EOO) equal to 7,408 km² and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 184 km², Neoschmidia pallida is assessed as Least Concern (LC).

Geographical area


Neoschmidia pallida is endemic to New Caledonia where it is mainly distributed in the Grand Massif Sud (from Yaté to Houailou) with an extension to the north ouest of Grande Terre (Pouembout and chingou massif).

Population


Population size is unknown.

Habitat


Neoschmidia pallida occurs in dense humid forest, galery forest and shrubland on ultramafic substrate up to 1,050 m asl.

Threats


Neoschmidia pallida does not seem globally threatened. However, some subpopulations may be impacted by bushfires, ongoing mining activities (at Kopeto and CFTMC) and future mining activities at Paéoua.

Conservation


Neoschmidia pallida is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia but it does occur in several protected areas: Montagne des sources, Rivière bleue, Forêt de Saille, Haute Dumbéa, Haute Pourina, Haute Yaté, la Dumbéa, Pic Ningua.
