Tarenna hexamera is an endemic shrub of New Caledonia restricted to the south part of Grande Terre, from the far south to the upper limit at Paita-Thio with an extension along the east coast up to Poro. This species occurs in maquis on ultramafic substrate between 50 and 300 m asl. This species is very common and it does not seem to be threatened. Therefore with an Area of Occupancy (AOO) and an Extent of Occurrence (EOO) equal to 196 and 3,975 km², respectively, Tarenna hexamera is not thought to approach the requirements for listing as threatened. It is listed as Least Concern (LC).

Geographical area


Tarenna hexamera is endemic to New Caledonia where it is restricted to the south part of Grande Terre, from the far south to the upper limit at Paita-Thio with an extension along the east coast up to Poro.

Population


The population size is not known. Field observations indicate that this species is very common.

Habitat


This species occurs in maquis on ultramafic substrate between 50 and 300 m asl.

Threats


This species is very common and it does not seem to be threatened.

Conservation


Tarenna hexamera is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia and it does occur in several protected areas : Foret Nord, Pic du Pin, Rivière bleue, Haute Pourina, Barrage de Yaté, Côte Oubliée, Chutes de la Madeleine.
