Pycnandra balansae is an endemic tree of New Caledonia and largely distributed across Grande Terre from Forêt Nord to Pouébo. It is essentially found in humid forest on various substrates at low and mid altitude (5-750 m asl). This species is largely distributed and does not seem directly threatened. Pycnandra balansae is considered Least Concern (LC).

Pycnandra balansae is largely distributed across Grande Terre in New Caledonia, from Forêt Nord to Pouébo.
Population
This species is quite common. It is known from 20-22 sub-populations.
Habitat
Pycnandra balansae is essentially found in humid forest on various substrates at an altitudinal range 5-750 m asl.
Threats
This species does not seem globally threatened.
Conservation
Unprotected species by legislation, Pycnandra balansae is found in several protected areas : Foret Nord, Parc des Grandes Fougères, Mont Panié, Montagne des sources, Pic du grand Kaori, Rivière bleue, Vallée de la Thy, Haute Yaté, Aoupinié.
