Polyscias bracteata ssp. bracteata is an endemic small tree of New Caledonia widespread in Grande Terre, Belep, Isle of Pines and Loyauté (Lifou, Maré). It occurs in shrubland and forest at low and mid altitude (5 - 1,070 m asl) on various substrates. It does not seem directly threatened. Polyscias bracteata ssp. bracteata is considered Least Concern (LC).

Polyscias bracteata ssp. bracteata is not protected by local legislation. It occurs in several protected areas : Haute Yaté, Parc des Grandes Fougères, Haute Dumbéa, Aoupinié, Rivière bleue, la Dumbéa, Mont Panié, Vallée de la Thy
