Phyllanthus rhodocladus is an endemic species of New Caledonia, which under current taxonomic delimitation, is only known from Ignambi in the north east of the Grande Terre. It is known from one herbarium collection by Compton R.H. in 1914. From current data, Phyllanthus rhodocladus may occur in undergrowth forest. As there are only one available collection and due to the lack of fieldwork the extent of occurrence (EOO) could not be calculated. Due to the general nature of the locality information the level of threat to these particular collection sites are unknown. Further research of this species is needed to be able to understand its conservation needs. Phyllanthus rhodocladus is therefore considered Data Deficient (DD).

Phyllanthus genus is protected by legislation in Province Nord. From current data, none of the current subpopulations occur within a protected area. It is highly recommended to realise field surveys at Ignambi and in near by areas and collect more samplings in order to better estimates its distribution range, habitat, threats and population size.
