Eriaxis rigida is an endemic terrestrial orchid of New Caledonia, widespread in Grande Terre, from Belep in the north to Prony in the south of Grande Terre. It occurs in humid forest and in shrubland at an altitudinal range 0-1,000 m asl. Eriaxis rigida is considered Least Concern (LC).

This species does not seem globally threatened. Some subpopulations may be threatened by mining activities: Tiebaghi (SLN), Kopeto (SLN), Goro (VALE), Koniambo (KNS).
