Description

Répartition

Sud de la Grande-Terre : Pourina, Rivière Bleue, potentiellement Côte Oubliée

Habitat

Forêt humide sur substrat ultramafique

Sigaloseps conditus is listed as Endangered (criteria B1ab(iii,v)+2ab(iii,v)) because it is restricted to three localities in south New Caledonia, with the extent of occurrence (EOO) being estimated at 35 km2 and the area of occupancy (AOO) at 20 km2. There is a continuing decline in the extent and quality of habitat and the number of mature individuals due to a variety of threats.

Aire géographique

Sigaloseps conditus is endemic to the Province Sud. It is known from two locations in the ranges of southern Grande Terre at the Pourina River and Rivière Bleue, and likely extends along the Côte Oubliée and its hinterland. The extent of occurrence is estimated at 35 km2 and the area of occupancy at 20 km2.

Population

There is no information on population size.

Habitat

This species occurs in humid forest on ultramafic substrate.

Menaces

Tha major threats to Sipaloseps conditus are habitat degradation from introduced pigs, predation pressure from feral cats (Palmas 2017) and the introduction of the invasive ant, Wasmannia auropunctata, which has a severe impact as it is known to decimate lizard populations (Jourdan et al. 2001, 2006).

Conservation

Espèce protégée règlementairement. Espèce présente dans 2 réserve(s) : Rivière bleue, Haute Yaté
