Tristaniopsis glauca is an endemic shrub from New Caledonia, where it is widely distributed the far south of Grande Terre. This species occurs in shrubland on ultramafic substrate up to 1,000 m asl. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are equal to 871 and 108 km², respectively. This species is quite common and locally abundant and does not seem threatened. Therefore, T. glauca is listed as Least Concern (LC).

Geographical area


T. glauca is endemic to new Caledonia where it is widely distributed in the far south of Grande Terre, from Port Boisé to the Ouinné valley.

Population


Population size is unknown, but field observations indicate that the species is quite common and abundant.

Habitat


T. glauca occurs in shrubland on ultramafic substrate up to 1,000 m asl.

Threats


This abundant species does not seem to be threatened at the moment, although some subpopulations may be impacted by uncontrolled bushfires and mining activities (Goro (Vale)).

Conservation


T. glauca is not protected by any legislation in New Caledonia, but it occurs in several protected areas: Barrage de Yaté, Haute Yaté, Parc de la Rivière Bleue, Montagne des sources, Vallée de la Thy, Chutes de la Madeleine. However, it is recommended to remain vigilant regarding myrtle rust (Austropuccinia psidii), which has been observed to infect cultivated individuals (Soewarto, comm. pers. 2017).
