Tristaniopsis guillainii var. guillainii is an endemic shrub or small tree from New Caledonia, where it widely distributed across the ultramafic massifs of northern and central Grande Terre. This variety occurs in shrubland on ultramafic substrate from 400 to 1,000 m asl. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are 10,225 and 248 km², respectively. This taxon is quite common and locally abundant and does not seem threatened. Therefore, T. guillainii var. guillainii is listed as Least Concern (LC).

Geographical area


T. guillainii var. guillainii is endemic to New Caledonia, where it is widely distributed across the ultramafic massifs in the north and the center the Grande Terre, with a few extensions to the far south of Grande Terre (Tontouta, Tamoa, Plaine des Lacs, Forêt Nord).

Population


Population size is unknown, but field observations indicate that this taxon is quite common and abundant.

Habitat


T. guillainii var. guillainii occurs in shrubland on ultramafic substrate from 400 to 1,000 m asl.

Threats


This abundant taxon does not seem to be threatened at the moment, although some subpopulations may be impacted by uncontrolled bushfires and mining activity (Goro (Vale), Tiebaghi (SLN), Vulcain (SMGM), Nakéty (SMT), Koniambo (KNS)).

Conservation


T. guillainii var. guillainii is not protected by any legislation in New Caledonia, but it occurs in one protected area: Mont Do.
