Justicia pinensis is a shrub endemic to New Caledonia, where it has a scattered distribution on Grande Terre (from Païta to Pouembout) and Ile des Pins. It occurs in dry forest and shrubland on various substrates (calcareous and volcano sedimentary) at low altitudes. Its area of occupancy (AOO) and extent of occurrence (EOO) are estimated at 40 and 7322 km², and the species is known from eight localities. The main identified threat is habitat degradation by uncontrolled bushfires. This species is therefore listed as Vulnerable (VU) under criteria B1ab(iii,v)+2ab(iii,v).

J. pinensis is endemic to New Caledonia, where it has a scattered distribution on Grande Terre (from Païta to Pouembout) and on Ile des Pins.
Population
Eight subpopulations have been identified (Tiéa, Népoui,Pindaï, Col d'Amieu, Dogny, Ilot Moro, Upi Baie(Ile des Pins),Isle of Pines[Ile des Pins].), but total population size is not known.
Habitat
J. pinensis occurs in dense humid forest or sclerophyllous undergrowth on volcano-sedimentary and calcareous substrate.
Threats
The main identified threat is habitat degradation by uncontrolled bushfires and invasive species (mostly Rusa deer Rusa timorensis).
Conservation
J. pinensis is protected by legislation in Province Sud and Province Nord, but it doesn't occur in any protected areas. This species would benefit from ex-situ and in-situ emergency conservation actions. It is proposed that monitoring should occur to ensure the persistence of the known population. To ensure the preservation of a viable population, it is recommended to inform the DSCGR (emergency services) and local Management Committee on the presence of the species in the concerned areas.
