This species occurs in dry forest, in maquis or in coastal forests on ultramafic and volcano-sedimentary substrates at an altitude range of 2 and 200 m asl. Elaeodendron pininsulare is known from seven localities and its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are 3,782 and 36 km², respectively. The main threat is posed by bushfires and land clearing causing habitat degradation. Therefore, Elaeodendron pininsulare is listed as Vulnerable (VU) under criteria B1ab(ii,iii,v)+B2ab(ii,iii,v) with an estimated decline of AOO, the habitat quality and the number of mature individuals.
