Hoya nicholsoniae is an autochtonous species from New Caledonia widely distrbuted across the Grande Terre as well as in Loyalty Islands, Belep islands and Ile des Pins. It is mainly found in mesic and humid forests of low and mid altitudes. This specis is quite abundant on calcareous substrates and is also found in volcano sedimentary and ultramafic substrates. The subpopulations of Grande Terre mainly the in the south west coast are threatened by Rusa deer and feral pigs (Munzinger & Gâteblé, 2017). However the species is common and does not seem globally threatened. Therefore with an Area of Occupancy (AOO) and Extent of Occurrence (EOO) being respectively estimated to be 172 and 54,120 km², Hoya nicholsoniae is considered Least concerned (LC).
