Least Concern (LC) , assessed in 05/04/2018Peripterygia marginata is an endemic shrub of New Caledonia with a large distribution in Grande Terre as well as in Ile des Pins. This species is found in shrubland on ultramafic substrate, from 100 to 1,050 m asl. With an extent of occurrence (EOO) equal to 9,870 km² and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 232 km², P. marginata is assessed as Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
P. marginata is an endemic species of New Caledonia largely distributed from Prony in the south to Taom in the north west of Grande Terre as well as in Ile des Pins.
Population
Population size is unknown but field observations show it is a common species.
Habitat
P. marginata occurs in shrubland on ultramafic substrate, from 100 to 1,050 m asl.
Threats
This species does not seem to be threatened, although some subpopulations may be impacted by fires and mining activities (Kopeto (SLN), Camp des sapins (SLN), Goro (VALE)).
Conservation
P. marginata is not protected by any legislation in New Caledonia but it occurs in several protected areas: Mont Humboldt, Mont Mou, Forêt de Saille, Foret Nord, Haute Yaté, Rivière bleue, Vallée de la Thy, la Dumbéa, Montagne des sources and Mont Do
