Least Concern (LC) , assessed in 05/04/2018Baloghia alternifolia is an endemic shrub or tree of New Caledonia largely distributed in the Grande Terre and it is also found in Ouen island and Belep islands. It is quite common and abundant and is found in shrubland (or forest border) on ultramafic substrate, up to 600 m asl. With an extent of occurrence (EOO) equal to 17,741 km² and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 232 km², B. alternifolia is assessed as Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
B. alternifolia is an endemic species to New Caledonia largely distributed in Grande Terre and it is also found in Belep islands and Ouen island at Mont Dore.
Population
Population size is unknown but field observations show it is a common species.
Habitat
B. alternifolia occurs in shrubland (or forest border) on ultramafic substrate, up to 600 m asl.
Threats
This species could be affected by fires and mining activities (Plateau (SLN), Tiebaghi (SLN)). However due to its large distribution, this species does not appear to be threatened at the moment.
Conservation
B. alternifolia is not protected by any legislation in New Caledonia but it does occur in two protected areas: la Dumbéa and Mont Mou.
