Endangered (EN) , assessed in 31/01/2023Eriochloa procera is an autochtonous species of New Caledonia, where it is only kwown from two subpopulations (Dumbéa and Baie de Tina) in the south west of the Grande Terre. It occurs in marshy grounds. The main threats to this species are urbanization and agriculture (this type of habitat is used for taro plantations). Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are both estimated to be 8 km² and the number of locations is estimated to be two. Therefore, Eriochloa procera is listed as Endangered (EN) under criteria B1ab(iii,v)+B2ab(iii,v) with an estimated continuing decline of the habitat and the number of mature individuals.

Eriochloa procera is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia and it does not occur in any protected area. It is recommanded to search the species on volcano-sedimentary substrate mainly on marshy grounds areas.
