Bulbophyllum hexarhopalon is an autochtonous epiphytic orchid of New Caledonia, widespread on Grande Terre (main island) : from Ilot Casy to Col d'Amos. B. hexarhopalon is a species mostly observed on forest edges but also occurring in dense humid forest, on and open shrubland at an altitudinal range 20-1400 m. asl. With an area of occupancy and an extent of occurrence equal to 172 and 11300 km², B. hexarhopalon qualifies as Least Concern.

The population size is unknown but field observation report middle population size by station.

This species does not seem threatened.

Conservation


B. hexarhopalon is protected by legislation in Province Nord and Province Sud and occurs in numerous protected areas : réserve de nature sauvage du Mont Panié, Réserve de nature sauvage du massif de l’Aoupinié, Parc des Grandes Fougères, réserve naturelle du Mont Humboldt, réserve naturelle du Mont Mou, Parc provincial de la Rivière Bleue, réserve naturelle de la Vallée de la Thy. There are no specific conservation measures in place or needed for this species.
