A rare but not threatened endemic orchid of New Caledonia, Gunnarella begaudii is found in southern and central parts of Grande Terre (main island) from Monts Koghi to Tango. G. begaudii occurs in humid forest on schist but also on ultramafic substrates in southern areas. It has an altitudinal range of 200-1,200 m asl. Despite having an area of occupancy and an extent of occurrence equal to 60 and 3,446 km², G. begaudii has no apparent threat, and is not thought to approach the requirements for listing as threatened. It is listed as Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
An endemic orchid of New Caledonia, Gunnarella begaudii is found in southern and central Grande Terre (main island) from Mt. Koghi to Tango.
Population
Population size is unknown.
Habitat
Gunnarella begaudii occurs in humid forest on schist but also on ultramafic substrates in southern areas. It occurs at an altitudinal range of 200-1,200 m asl.
Threats
G. begaudii does not seem threatened.
Conservation
G. begaudii is protected by legislation in Province Nord and occurs in five protected areas : Parc des Grandes Fougères, réserve naturelle du Mont Humboldt, réserve naturelle du Mont Mou, Parc Provincial de la Rivière Bleue, réserve naturelle de la Haute Dumbéa.
