Pandanus balansae is an endemic tree or small tree of New Caledonia, widespread from the south to the north-east on Grande Terre and Belep islands. It occurs in talweg forest and shrubland on volcano-sedimentary and ultramafic substrate at an altitudinal range of 120-1,150 m asl. It does not directly treathened and its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are estimated to be 6,869 and 108 km², respectively. Therefore, Pandanus balansae is considered Least Concern (LC).

Population
The population size is unknown.
Habitat
P. balansae occurs in talweg forest and shrubland on volcano-sedimentary and ultramafic substrate at an altitudinal range of 120-1,150 m asl.
Threats
P. balansae does not seem globally threatened but some subpopulations may be impacted by bushfires and mining activities: Goro (Vale Inco).
Conservation
P. balansae is protected by legislation in Province Nord. This species is found in numerous protected areas: Aoupinié, Mont Panié, Montagne des sources, Parc des Grandes Fougères, Rivière bleue, Haute Yaté, Massif du Kouakoué.
