in Southern ProvinceElaeodendron pininsulare subsp. pininsulare is a narrowly endemic shrub or small tree of New Caledonia, growing up to 3 to 10 m high, only known from Ile des Pins. This subspecies is known from two subpopulations: Pic N'Ga and Oro. It occurs in shrubland on ultramafic substrate at an altitude range of 6 and 200 m asl. Its area of occupancy (AOO) and extent of occurrence (EOO) are equal to 8 and 8 km² while the number of locations is estimated to be two. The main identified threat is habitat degradation by uncontrolled bushfires. Elaeodendron pininsulare subsp. pininsulare is therefore listed as Endangered (EN) under criteria B1ab(iii,v)+2ab(iii,v) with an estimated decline of habitat quality and number of mature individuals.
Geographical area
Elaeodendron pininsulare subsp. pininsulare is endemic to New Caledonia where it is restricted to Ile des Pins. It is known from two subpopulations: Pic N'Ga and Oro.

Conservation
Elaeodendron pininsulare subsp. pininsulare is protected by legislation in Province Sud and it does not occur in any protected area. It is recommended to inform the DSCGR (emergency services), responsible for the coordination of the firefighting effort, on the presence of the subspecies in the concerned areas. And finally this subspecies would benefit from ex situ and in situ emergency conservation actions.
