Ascarina solmsiana var. grandiflora is an endemic shrub or small tree from New Caledonia. It is known from three subpopulations (Rivière Bleue, Mont Koghi and Dzumac) that are restricted to the south of Grande Terre. It occurs in forest undergrowth on volcano-sedimentary substrate from 300 to 1,000 m asl. The main potential impact would come from invasive species (feral pigs Sus scrofa) on humid forests. The population does not seem to decline. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are estimated at 246 and 48 km², respectively. Therefore, Ascarina solmsiana var. grandiflora is considered Near Threatened (NT) close to VU B1ab(iii)+2ab(iii) with an estimated decline of habitat quality and a number of locations estimated to be five.
