Elaeocarpus vieillardii var. lecardii is an endemic tree from New Caledonia, where it has a scattered distribution across Grande Terre. It occurs in dense humid forest on ultramafic substrate and serpentine rocks between 150 and 650 m asl. Known from 10 locations, its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are 3,428 and 44 km², respectively. The main threats are bushfires, mining activities and invasive species, that cause habitat degradation. Therefore, E. vieillardii var. lecardii is listed as Vulnerable (VU) under criteria B1ab(i,ii,iii,v)+B2ab(i,ii,iii,v).

E. vieillardii var. lecardii is endemic to New Caledonia, where it has a scattered distribution across Grande Terre: from Prony (Yaté) to Plateau de Tango (Koné).
Population
Population size is unknown.
Habitat
E. vieillardii var. lecardii occurs in dense humid forest on ultramafic substrate and serpentine rocks between 150 and 650 m asl.
Threats
The main threats are bushfires, mining activities at Goro (Vale) and invasive species (rusa deer (Rusa timorensis) and feral pigs (Sus scrofa)), that cause habitat degradation.
Conservation
This taxon is protected by legislation in Province Nord and occurs in one protected area: Parc de la Rivière Bleue. The local authority responsible for the coordination of the firefighting effort should be informed about the presence of the taxon in the concerned areas.
