It is found at the forest edges and in shrublands on ultramafic soil at an altitudinal range 10-530 m asl. Its area of occupancy and its area of occurrence are equal to 164 and 1656 km² respectively. Population size is not precisely known but could be more than 10,000 mature individuals. With 6 locations affected by bushfire, invasive animal species such as rusa deer (Rusa timorensis) and with the urban development, a continuous decline of quality of habitat and number of mature individuals is likely. Using criteria B, Pittosporum collinum qualifies as Vulnerable (VU) B1ab(iii,v)+2ab(iii,v).
