Beauprea balansae is a endemic shrub or small tree of New Caledonia. It has a discontinuous distribution on ultramafic massifs in the central and the north west part of Grande Terre. This species occurs in undergrowth humid forest and in scrubland on ultramafic soil at an altitude range of 200-1,100 masl. Mining activities and uncontrolled bushfires are at the root of a continuous decline in area of occupancy (AOO), quality of habitat and population size. The Extent of Occurrence (EOO) and Area of Occupancy (AOO) are equal to 2,345 and 92 km², respectively, while the number of locations is estimated to be ten. Under criteria B, Beauprea balansae qualifies as Vulnerable (VU) B1ab(ii,iii,v)+2ab(ii,iii,v).

The population size is not known.

Threats

Conservation
Beauprea balansae is protected by legislation in Province Nord and it does occur in one protected area : Côte Oubliée. It is proposed to ensure the follow-up of the only known subpopulation. It is also recommended to inform the DSCGR (emergency services), responsible for the coordination of the firefighting effort, on the presence of the species in the concerned area as well as awarness amongs the population. Plus prospections in the east of Grande Terre are needed to confirm the continious distribution in this region to better estimated its population size.
