in Northern ProvinceBeauprea comptonii is a shrub growing up to 3-4 m high or small tree growing up to 10 m high endemic from New Caledonia. It has a scattered distribution across the eastern forests of the Grande Terre, from the southern limit at the Rivière Ni to its upper limit at Pouébo. It grows only in forests and in undergrowth forets on non ultramafic substrate at an altitude range of 200-1,500 m asl. This species is common in north eastern forests and it does not seem to be threatened. With an Extent of Occurrence (EOO) and Area of Occupancy (AOO) respectively equal to 2,795 and 68 km², Beauprea comptonii is common and is considered as Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
Beauprea comptonii is endemic to New Caledonia where it has a scattered distribution across the eastern forests of the Grande Terre, from the southern limit at the Rivière Ni to the upper limit at Pouébo.
Population
The population size is not known. Field prospections indicate that the species is common in north eastern forests.
Habitat
Beauprea comptonii grows only in forests and in undergrowth forets on non ultramafic substrate at an altitude range of 200-1,500 m asl.
Threats
This species is common in north eastern forests and it does not seem to be threatened.
Conservation
Beauprea comptonii is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia and it does occur in three protected areas: Aoupinié, Côte Oubliée, Mont Panié. This species is suspected to be more widespread in Grande Terre, so surveys and collections are recommended there to confirm it.
