in Northern ProvinceVirotia vieillardii is an endemic big tree from New Caledonia (growig up to 25 m high) with a disperse distribution in Grande Terre. This species occurs in dense humid forest ion ultramafic and volcano-sedimentary substrate at an altitude range of 500 and 900 asl. This species may be threatened by Rusa deer (Rusa timorensis), feral pigs (Sus scrofa) and bushfires mostly at Col d'Amos. Its distribution range could be larger given its scattered distribution. Therefore Its area of occupancy (AOO) is estimated to be betwwen 40 and 100 km² and its extent of occurrence (EOO) is estimated to be between 600 and 1,000 km² and its number of location could be estimated to be more than ten. V vieillardii is therefore considered Near Threatened (NT) close to VU B1ab(iii,v)+2ab(iii,v) with an estimated decline of the habitat quality and the number of mature individuals.
Geographical area
Virotia vieillardii is endemic to New Caledonia where it has a disperse distribution in Grande Terre.
