in Northern ProvinceTarenna truncatocalyx var. artensis is an endemic shrub of New Caledonia where it is only known from Art island (Bélep archipelago) in the far north of New Caledonia. It is found in dense humid forest and shrubland on ultramafic substrate up to 260 m asl. Its area of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are both estimated to 28 km², while the variety is known from a single location. The main identified threats are uncontrolled fires and potentially mining activities in the future. Using criteria B, Tarenna truncatocalyx var. artensis qualifies as Critically Endangered (CR) B1ab(iii,v) with an estimated continuing decline of the concerned subcriteria.

The main identified threats are uncontrolled fires and potentially mining activities in the future.
Conservation
Tarenna truncatocalyx var. artensis is protected by legislation in Province Nord, but it does not occur in any protected areas. This variety would benefit from ex situ and in situ emergency conservation actions. To ensure the persistence of the known population, it is proposed that monitoring should occur on the site, as well as information of the DSCGR (government department overseeing firefighting actions) on the presence of the variety in the concerned areas. Finally, surveys and collections are recommended to improve the knowledge on this poorly known species.
