Endangered (EN) , assessed in 20/08/2019Trichospermum inmac is a native tree from New Caledonia, also found in Vanuatu. In New Caledonia, it is only known from 2 locations in low-elevation dense humid forest in the northeast of Grande Terre. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are estimated at 19 and 12 km², respectively. The main threat to this species is habitat degradation caused by invasive species (rusa deer, Rusa timorensis) and uncontrolled bushfires. Therefore, T. inmac is listed as Endangered (EN) under criteria B1ab(i,ii,iii)+2ab(i,ii,iii).
Geographical area
T. inmac is native to New Caledonia and Vanuatu. In New Caledonia, it is known from 2 locations in the northeast of Grande Terre (Ponandou valley, Napoémien).
Population
Total population size is unknown, but field observation indicate the Ponandou subpopulation is rather small in number and area.
Habitat
T. inmac occurs in low-elevation dense humid forest up to 150 m asl.
Threats
The main threat to this species is habitat degradation caused by invasive species (rusa deer, Rusa timorensis) in the forest, as well as uncontrolled bushfires in the vicinity of human settlements.
Conservation
T. inmac is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia and does not occur in any protected areas. Further prospection is recommended in the northeast of Grande Terre to better estimate its distribution in New Caledonia.
