Baloghia buchholzii is an endemic shrub or small tree of New Caledonia, growing up to 0.5 to 6 m high. It has a wide and discontinious distribution across the Grande Terre. It is found in dense humid forest on ultramafic and volcano-sedimentary substrate at an altitude range of 150 and 1,250 m asl. This species does not appear to be abundant. Despite having an Area of Occupancy (AOO) and an Extent of Occurrence (EOO) equal to 128 and 9,075 km² respectively, Baloghia buchholzii does not seem to be threatened. It is therefore listed as Least Concern (LC).
