Data Deficient (DD) , assessed in 29/02/2016Myrsine nigricans is an endemic shrub of New Caledonia restricted to the north-east massif (Mandjélia, Ignambi, roches Ouaïème) and the mont Ouin in the south. This species is insufficiently known. It is found in forest on volcano-sedimentary or ultramafic substrates at an altitude of 750-1,250 m asl. The genus needs a taxonomic clarification. Therefore, Myrsine nigricans is assigned as Data Deficient (DD) for taxonomic and provenance reasons.

This species is not protected by legislation. The genus Myrsine should be taxonomically clarified in order to be able to assess the extinction risks of species.
