Kanakomyrtus revoluta is a small endemic tree from New Caledonia, where it is restricted to the northeast of Grande Terre. It occurs in humid forest on volcano-sedimentary substrate at around 700 m asl. Its area of occupation (AOO) and extent of occurrence (EOO) are both estimated at 8 km². Potential threats to this species include bushfires and invasive species such as Pinus caribaea. Therefore, K. revoluta is listed as Endangered (EN) under criteria B1ab(iii,v)+2ab(iii,v).

Geographical area

K. revoluta is endemic to New Caledonia, where it is restricted to the northeast of Grande Terre, on mounts Ignambi and Mandjélia.

Population size is unknown

Habitat

K. revoluta occurs in humid forest on volcano-sedimentary substrate at around 700 m asl.

Threats

Potential threats to this species include bushfires and invasive species such as Pinus caribaea.

Conservation

K. revoluta is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia and it does not occur in any protected areas. This species would benefit from in situ and ex situ emergency conservation actions. It is proposed that monitoring should occur to ensure the persistence of the known population. To ensure the preservation of a viable population, it is recommended to inform the DSCGR (government department overseeing firefighting actions) on the presence of the species in the concerned areas. Finally, as for the other species of this genus, prospection in the northeast of Grande Terre is needed to collect more biological material.
