Eugenia jaffrei is an endemic shrub from New Caledonia. It is only known from two subpopulations, Koniambo and Katépahié, restricted to the north west massifs of the Grande Terre. This species is found in shrubland on ultramafic substrate at an altitudinal range of 500-610 m asl. The main identified threats are linked to habitat damage by uncontrolled bushfires and mining activities at Koniambo massifs. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are both estimated to be 16 km² while the number of locations are estimated to be three. Eugenia jaffrei is therefore assessed as Endangered (EN) with criteria B1ab(ii,iii,v)+2ab(ii,iii,v), with an estimated continuing decline of all concerned sub-criteria.

Conservation

Eugenia jaffrei is protected by legislation and it does not occur in any protected area. It is recommended to inform the DSCGR (emergency services) on the presence of the species in the concerned areas. It is recommended to search areas surrounding of the two known subpopulations, to monitor subpopulations, and to preserve a viable population within delimited perimeters.
