Red List Status -
Vulnerable (VU) , assessed in 02/05/2019Mangenotiella stellata is an endemic monocaule riparian shrub (1-4 m high) distributed in the north-east of Grande Terre with an extension to Vallée de l'Ouanemi. This taxon occurs in dense humid forest on volcano-sedimentary substrates up to 500 m asl. The main threats identified are bushfires for the lower subpopulations and invasive species (feral pigs and Rusa Deer). Its Extent of Occurrence (EOO) and Area of Occupancy (AOO) are respectively estimated to be 2,406 km² and 32 km² with a number of locations equal to seven. Therefore M. stellata qualififies as Vulnerable under criteria B1ab(iii, v)+2ab(iii,v) with a decline of habitat quality and number of mature individuals.

Conservation
Mangenotiella stellata is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia and it does occur in only one protected area: Mont Panié. It is recommended to inform the DSCGR (emergency services), responsible for the coordination of the firefighting effort, and the Conservatoire d'espaces naturels de Nouvelle-Calédonie (New Caledonia natural spaces conservatory), which coordinates the New Caledonian Invasive Species Programme, on the presence of the species in the concerned areas. It is presumed that ex-situ reproduction is feasible.
