Semecarpus neocaledonica is a big tree growing up to more than 10 m high, endemic from New Caledonia . It is restricted to the southern massif of Grande Terre (Massif du Grand Sud), from Goro at the far south of the massif to its upper limit at Dumbéa-Thio. It occurs in dense humid forest slopes or along creek's border on ultramafic substrate up to 500 m asl. Some subpopulations may be impacted by bushfires and mining activities but this species is common and it does not seem directly threatened. Therefore, with an Extent of Occurrence (EOO) of 2,083 km² and an Area of ocupancy (AOO) estimated to 164 km², Semecarpus neocaledonica does not meet the requirements for a threatened species and is assessed as Least Concern (LC).

Geographical area

Semecarpus neocaledonica is endemic to New Caledonia where it is restricted to the southern massif of Grande Terre (Massif du Grand Sud), from Goro at the far south of the massif to its upper limit at Dumbéa-Thio.

Population

The populatin size is not known. Based in field observations this species is common in the south of Grande Terre.

Habitat

This species occurs in dense humid forest slopes or along creek's border on ultramafic substrate up to 500 m asl.

Threats

Some subpopulaions may be impacted by bushfires and mining activities but this species is common and it does not seem directly threatened.

Conservation

This species is not legally protected. It is found in several protected areas : Haute Dumbéa, Foret Nord, Forêt cachée, Côte Oubliée, Cap N'dua, Vallée de la Thy, Rivière bleue, Pic du Pin, Parc zoologique et forestier Michel Corbasson, Montagne des sources, la Dumbéa, Haute Yaté.
