Urochloa glumaris is an autochtonous herb from New Caledonia where it is widely distributed in the coastal areas of Grande Terre as well as in Bélep islands, Ile des Pins, Loyalty islands (Maré, Lifou, Ouvéa and Tiga). This species occurs in littoral habitat in sandy and serpentine substrates up to 220 m als. This species does not seem to be threatened. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are estimated at 59,398 and 96 km², respectively. Therefore, Urochloa glumaris is listed as Least Concern (LC).

Urochloa glumaris is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia and it does not occur in any protected area.
