Near Threatened (NT) , assessed in 24/10/2019Leichhardtia ericoides is an endemic small shrub from New Caledonia where it is restricted to the Grand Massif Sud of Grande Terre, from Goro to Ngoye. This species is common and occurs in open shrubland along the banks of rivers as well in forest shreds. It grows on ultramafic substrate up at an altitude range of 0 and 900 m asl. The main impact identified comes from ongoing mining activites at Goro and bushfires (at Montagne des Sources and Ngoye for example). Its Area of Occupancy (AOO) and Extent of Occurrence (EOO) are respectively estimated to be 76 and 675 km² and its number of location estimated to be over 10 of which 5 are present in protected areas. Therefore, Leichhardtia ericoides is considered Near Threatened (NT) close to VU B1ab(ii,iii,v)+2ab(ii,iii,v) with an estimated decline of all the concerned subcriteria

Conservation
Leichhardtia ericoides is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia but it does occur in several protected areas: Massif du Kouakoué, Barrage de Yaté, Chutes de la Madeleine, Haute Pourina, Haute Yaté, Montagne des sources, Riv.bleue.
