Leptaspis banksii is an autochtonous herb from New Caledonia where it is distributed in the southern part of Grande Terre. It is known from five subpopulations : vallée de Yahoué, la Dothio, Table-Unio, Koh and at Baroua. This species occurs in undergrowth forest edges up to 600 m asl., in various substrates with the exception of the mining substrate. This species is very common and this species does not seem to be threatened. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are estimated at 57,584 and 136 km², respectively. Therefore, Leptaspis banksi is listed as Least Concern (LC).

Population size is unknown, but field observations indicate that this species is very common.

Habitat


Leptaspis banksii occurs in forest edges up to 600 m asl, mainly along river banks, in various substrates with the exception of the mining substrate.

Threats


This species is very common and this species does not seem to be threatened.

Conservation


Leptaspis banksii is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia and it does occur in two protected areas : Vallée de la Thy and Parc des Grandes Fougères.
