Phyllanthus boguenensis is sub-shrub of 20-60 cm high, endemic of New Caledonia and restricted to the central part of Grande Terre, from Pic Noir to Katrikoin. This species occurs between rocks or near river banks between 200 and 880 m asl. The main identified threats are linked to deer grazing (personal comm. Vandrot) and habitat damage by invasive species (Rusa deer, Rusa timorensis). Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are respectively estimated to be of 53 km² and 24 km² while the number of locations is estimated to be 5. Using criterion B and with the estimation of a continuous decline of its habitat quality and its number of mature indivuals, Phyllanthus boguenensis is assessed as En Dangered (EN) B1ab(iii,v)+2ab(iii,v).

Phyllanthus boguenensis is endemic to New Caledonia where it is restricted to the centre of Grande Terre, from pic Noir and Katrikoin.

Conservation

Phyllanthus genus is protected by legislation in Province Nord. Phyllanthus boguenensis is present in one protected area: Parc des Grandes Fougères. This species should be listed in the Province Sud legislation. It is recommended to inform the Conservatoire d'espaces naturels de Nouvelle-Calédonie (New Caledonia natural spaces conservatory), which coordinates the New caledonian Invasive Species Programme, on the situation of the species in the concerned areas. And it is also recommended to realise field surveys at Canala, Mé Ori and other part of the centre of Grande Terre.
